Skratch Awards - August 29

Welcome to the Skratch Awards, a celebration of everything that was great in golf this week.

Sweetest Win: Patrick Reed - The Barclays

We should have known Patrick was going to do something awesome as soon as this happened on Tuesday.

Good omen.

Fun fact: That was only the third time someone had broken the gavel in NYSE history.

Taking the first leg of the Playoffs is a huge boost in confidence, something Patrick has never lacked, whatsoever.

With Bethpage playing absolutely brutal …

… in front of a sea of fans going bonkers on Sunday, Reed seemed unflappable …

… which is great to see — especially in a Ryder Cup year.

Whether you love him or hate him, this guy is an absolute terror in match play, and can’t get enough of representing the U.S. in team competition.

Team Europe, you’ve been warned.

Other nominee: Bernhard Langer - Boeing Classic

The 59-year-old further cemented his legacy by tying Lee Trevino on the Tour’s all-time win list at 29.

Plus, this bomber jacket is a pretty sweet prize, too.

Other nominee: Thomas Pieters - Made in Denmark

If you can’t quite put your finger on how you know of this guy, this moment in epic #TourSauce from The Open may jog your memory:

After a disappointing couple days at the Olympics, Thomas won his third European Tour title, and greatly improved his chances of being selected by Darren Clarke as a Captain’s Pick in the process. Proof that patience does pay off:

Other nominee: Ariya Jutanugarn - Canadian Pacific

If this name looks familiar, it’s because we mentioned Ariya in the Skratch Awards when she won the Women’s British last month.

This girl has been absolutely tearing it up this year. In fact, in her last 3 starts, she’s gone win-win-T2.

Now, the Thai superstar leads the LPGA in total wins on the season with five. Not bad for your second year on Tour.

Ariya is the real deal, y’all.

Who knows what could have happened had she not withdrawn from the Olympics because of an injured left knee!

Coolest Late-Night TV Moment - Spieth on Fallon

Jordan visited the Tonight Show and talked about playing with Bill Murray, and then tried to hit marshmallows into Jimmy’s mouth.

Good times. Check it out:

Most Unbelievable Divot: Bubba Watson

Best Callback: Roo Knox

Russell's reply:

Gnarliest Backspin: Kevin Na

Most Participatory Fans: This crowd in Denmark

😳 Ryder Cup hype is real.

Best Use of ProTracer: Pat Reed’s gavel break
