Skratch Awards - September 19th

Welcome to the Skratch Awards, a celebration of everything that was great in golf this week.

Sweetest Win - Francesco Molinari

There may be nothing sweeter than winning your nation’s open (for a second time, nonetheless).

Francesco held off a charging Danny Willett to win the Italian Open by one. And to give some context on how strong Molinari's win was, Willett was playing lights out for the entire week.

And it wasn’t like there was a large group of locals in the mix, either. There was a sizable gap between Francesco and the next Italian on the leaderboard - Nicco Ravano, who finished T30. After him was Nino Bertasio at T45.

Winning your nation's open tournament twice in 10 years must feel amazing, but it still may not top what he did in Phoenix back in 2015:

Other nominee: Michael Thompson

Michael was mega-clutch down the stretch to win for the first time since 2013.

People’s Champion - Beef (again, obviously)

This is totally getting redundant, but Andrew Johnston is awesome.

Now, he’s bringing all of his awesomeness to the PGA TOUR, earning enough money in the Tour Finals to secure his card.

Beef, sheepishly, admitted he was going to celebrate like we all knew he would.

But Beef should be allowed to go completely nuts; he’s headed to the PGA TOUR. That’s definitely something we can all drink to.

BTW, if you still don’t know where the nickname Beef came from …

Throwback of the Week - Tiger/Phil 2002 @ East Lake

Other nominee: Smylie’s Army

Other nominee: Lumpy

Epic Response of the Week - Beef to Rhein Gibson

This golf fan is sick of the amount of coverage Beef is getting.

Pro golfer Rhein Gibson saw that guy’s tweet, and decided to chime in …

Beef saw Rhein’s tweet, and responded like a total boss …

Rhein’s response:

Other nominee: Lee Westwood to Shane Lowry

After an epic finish to the All-Ireland FSC match between Dublin v Mayo that ended in a draw, Lee Westwood learned the replay will be held on Sunday in two weeks …

Shane Lowry saw that tweet and invited Lee to watch the game with him.

That’s when Lee had to let Shane know that he already has plans. Some sort of team competition, or something …

After not making the Ryder Cup roster, Shane’s response could have been much worse.

But it’s probably all good.

Other nominee: Beef to Smylie and JT

Smylie Kaufman is constantly talking about how everyone thinks he looks like a kid.

This convo will not help.

Most Unprepared - Camilo Villegas

Most Productive Week - Andres Gonzales

Most Crucial Upgrade - Bowdo

Most Obnoxiously Large Divot - Cameron Percy

Happiest Birthday - Bryson DeChambeau
